Revisit/Reimagine Statement

EXHIBITION STATEMENT

In the 60 years since the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, issues of racial inequality have transformed, progressed, and in some cases, regressed. Today, activism and resistance continues to take on many forms, whether on-the-ground, behind a smart-device, or in an art-making studio.

REVISIT/REIMAGINE presents photographs of civil rights leaders in tandem with contemporary works, highlighting the intergenerational experience of social justice and how it has been passed down like a family heirloom.

Like the curation of living quarters, the exhibition has books, plants, and intimate ephemeral objects placed throughout the space to heighten the feeling of ‘home’. The domestic setting aims to make the journey taken for social justice more approachable and invites everyday citizens to become active participants in the progress to be found in the next 60 years.
