Faced with the challenge of curating a signature exhibition for Creative Alliance’s 25th birthday, Visual Arts Curator Thomas James first decided to select 25 artists to commemorate this significant anniversary. He knew it would be impossible to narrow down 25 artists from the hundreds of shows Creative Alliance has hosted over a quarter of a century.
When Creative Alliance moved from Fells Point to our current location, some of the most impressive and important shows in the region have been on view in both gallery spaces.
Creative Alliance’s mission guided him in selecting the emerging artists for the exhibition. On the Verge:25 New and Emerging Artists represents a range of styles, media, and material. This exhibition serves as a platform to help artists achieve their creative vision by giving them a venue to take artistic risks and experiment, to connect with each other, and to interact with new audiences.
As Creative Alliance looks towards the future, the intention of the exhibition is to bring new and emerging artists to the forefront, which has always been at the heart of Creative Alliance’s mission from the beginning. Creative Alliance continues to celebrate the eclectic background of each artist from a variety of cultures and sexual identities.
The artists whose work is in this exhibition are based in Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region, and states across the U.S., while some are international and hail from Japan, Brazil, China, and Iran.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Galanthus Foundation.
